On Thursday, February 13, we celebrated the inauguration of Dalum Papirfabrik's new playground together with a bunch of wonderful people. Even though the winter cold bit our cheeks, the atmosphere was warm and lively as both current residents and curious guests from near and far gathered for the opening party. With a coffee cart, freshly baked pancakes, and crackling bonfires, everyone was kept warm and cozy.
The activity center pays tribute to the history of Dalum Paper Mill and was created through a careful renovation of the old machine hall—one of the factory's preserved buildings. It was therefore only natural that the playground, which is a gift to the area from Nordhusene, should reflect this unique historical heritage. And what could be more obvious than a playground shaped like a paper mill?
When Dalum Papirfabrik was founded in 1874, the first paper mill was located in this very machine hall. For 74 years—until 1948—it produced paper, but now a paper mill has been rebuilt in the renovated hall. This time, however, it is not for producing paper, but for creating fun and community for the area's residents.

From the moment the doors opened, the playground was quickly filled with happy children eagerly climbing, sliding, and exploring the many hidden corners of the paper mill's ingenious construction. One mother enthusiastically told us that her children loved the fact that it was not a traditional playground, but rather an adventurous place filled with secret nooks and crannies and exciting opportunities for play.
The playground was designed and built by the renowned Danish company Monstrum, which is known worldwide for its artistic and imaginative wooden playgrounds. Monstrum's unique designs can be found in countries from the Dominican Republic to Singapore, but here in Dalum we have a very special version that is tailored to the factory's architecture and history.
Both the activity center and the playground are part of the vision for Dalum Papirfabrik as a vibrant and dynamic residential area, where history and cultural heritage go hand in hand with modern community and activities. We hope that the activity center will become a natural gathering place where young and old alike can meet, play, and enjoy each other's company in beautiful, historic surroundings.
